I found my old Half-Life generation pack CDs when i was cleaning my attic. I would like to add the original Half-Life to one of my accounts. Is it still possible? The CD-keys are from the 90’s and steam doesn’t regonize it. The cd-keys form is as follows: 1234-12345-1234

Sierra keys are not Steam redeemable keys.

They can still be used to play without Steam.

Don’t toss them. Some people will pay for them.

Try entering the CD key under «Activate a Product on Steam.»

On the client, to bottom left you see Add a game, click on that.

If key doesn’t work at all, then that might not be the key, for Steam.

You can always wait until Steam sale, and get the half life for like $2, or get the collection for bit more.

I get an invalid key error when i try to activate the game. I have 3 cd-keys for Opposing Force, Half-Life and Counter Strike and non of them are valid. How did you manage to activate your Half-Life. I remember that i was playing CS 1.3 retail before steam was a thing

You can’t activate them on Steam.

You can sell them to collectors though.

i bought a half life 2 game from ebay. The person has now oviously used the key and it doesnt work. He said nothing of it being used and thats complete bullshit. I dont want to send 10 dollars to valve unless i can do it by credit card. Can someone help? i want to use half life 2 so badly!

just looked into ma hl2 case. there’s no manual in there, just a shody little paper with the input keys (like a former hl gamer would not find them out ^_^ ).you need to look up their web-page.

but don’t get hopefull. i have not heard of one yet getting his cd-key back in such a way. 100% Pretty Cool

Yeah, Half-Life 2 and other such Valve games probably isn’t too safe to purchase second hand.

I’m not certain on this, but there’s a chance that if you have the cd key in your possession physically, you may be able to either take a picture of it or send it in to prove that you are the new owner. I don’t know Valve’s policy on that and you’d have to ask them first.

My original key was stolen by a key generator

im so sad no one knows my pain. I want to map so badly! im practically dieing. When i saw the package get dropped on my doorstep i was so happy! then the tension builds up. then once i install im ready to play! then i try to regester to use half life 2 and i stared at the screen. blankly. then i yelled so fucking loud! RAHH then my heart sunk and i laid down on the floor and practiced photosynthesis

EDIT: Lesson learned. many ebayers arent honest and there goes some money down the pooper. Guess ill buy a whole new game

I bought my copy of Half-Life 2 off of eBay for $12, and the cd key on there worked. You just have to make sure the guy you’re buying from has a reputation rating of over like 10,000 or 20,000. That way, you can at least be sure that they’re not the ones trying to screw you over.

Just send a complaint into eBay if the guy said that the cd key would work, and they’ll set up a dispute notification so you might be able to get your green back.
